Full Moon in Aquarius part two: The Sturgeon Moon
Sometimes the days and months line up in a way that gives us two full moons in one sign. This time, it’s a double shot of Full Moon in Aquarius.
The last Full Moon was the Buck moon and this Full Moon is usually called the Sturgeon, but I prefer the Flying Up Moon, from the Cree. They used this name because it’s the time of year when baby birds fly from their nest.
It’s time for us to fly from the nest. Well, your character, at least.
For this writing prompt we are releasing our safety nets, casting away our training wheels, packing away the baby blanket.
Guided writing exercise
Think of the places and things that give you (or your character) the feeling of ultimate safety. Where do you return to when you are scared or lost? Where do you burrow when you can’t handle what’s going on?
Why is this the place you return to? What connections do you make between this place and your childhood, your family, and/or your significant other?
Describe this place in as much sensory detail as possible.
Consider that this place is holding you back. Relying on it might be comforting, but leaning on it too hard, too often, could be keeping you from growing, from learning, from becoming the fullest version of yourself. If you suspect that could be the case, you must release this place and fly the nest.
Imagine that this place is destroyed. If this is for your character, have it be destroyed by some outside force. It burns down or floods. Tornado. Whatever you can imagine. Write that scene.
If this is a real life place, imagine taking it apart brick by brick, thanking each piece for the comfort it provided, and reclaiming the parts of yourself that have been hiding. Explore that deconstruction as thoroughly as feels right or compelling to you. Go forward with gratitude, knowing that you are capable and strong no matter where you are.
