Writers, what the September '22 full moon means for you
September’s full moon is in Pisces and is called the harvest moon.
On the surface, a dreamy and intuitive sign like Pisces seems at odds with the hard work of Virgo season. Now is a time for reaping, storing, canning, and preparing what we have tended to all summer long. What we reserve now must sustain us through the winter.
It is hard work, for sure, but let it be your work.
Pisces is the oldest, wisest, and most intuitive sign, and helps us figure out that we can only labor under others’ priorities for so long. Ultimately, you are the one that has to live with your harvest, and you should enjoy the sustenance. Are you harvesting and canning tomatoes when you’d rather be making pickles? This full moon in Pisces is telling us to release whatever demands for performance, product, or perfection others have placed on us, especially when they aren’t the ones doing the labor or living with the end result. And especially, if it’s your own arbitrary parameters that you implemented because you thought that’s what someone else wanted. (Did you even ask if anyone wanted tomatoes, or did you assume?)
A writer’s ritual for the September '22 full moon
The release ritual this month will involve facing some deep questions (Pisces) and making a plan (Virgo) to align the outcomes. Designate a good chunk of Do Not Disturb time to work your way through as many of these situations as possible.
Make a list of every project you are working on now. These could be writing projects, household projects, work projects, etc. Consider each one.
Are there any projects that absolutely must be done by someone else’s rules? Is there any room to implement your own creative process? If not, release these projects with a short blessing: I am grateful and thankful that someone has trusted me to execute their vision. Let me complete this project quickly and without resistance.
For any projects where there is some leeway to complete independence, sit quietly with each project. Review and question every aspect. Are you making decisions about the project based on someone else’s demands even though they have no stake in the outcome? Are you thinking in specific ways based on past patterns, instructions, or ideas of “that’s how I’ve always done it?”
With a pen and paper nearby, meditate on this project, clear your mind of everything except the needed project outcome. Use this mantra, or something like it: I am open to all ways that lead me to (name project ie: a finished short story). I release previous methods with gratitude and welcome new experiences as I complete this task. The next time you sit down to work on the project, remember that you are the one that has to live with the end product. Let it be something you’ll find joy in.
Tarot reading for writers
For this month's tarot reading, we have two kings: the King of Wands and the King of Swords. These two kings represent action in two different ways. The King of Wands is the king of creativity and passion and inspiration to make something. The King of Swords is clarity, loyalty and being inspired to do something. These kings can be two different characters or two sides of the same character who are kind of battling with this head-over-heart decision. Do you go with your passion, or do you rely on your logic to guide your decision? Something needs to be done.
A writing prompt
There's no gray area with the King of Swords and the King of Wands is all gray area, so your writing prompt this week is to write either about two people who have two different ways they want to move forward on the same project, or an internal struggle where one person is trying to decide between doing what their heart tells them to do and doing what their head tells them to do.
And if you want to make the prompt a little more challenging, see if you can include either a puppy, a four-leaf clover, or a fake diamond ring.
